As we celebrate Healthcare Quality Week, we’re highlighting one of the bright lights on our Quality Team: Kelsey Otto, Quality Control Intern, whose work reminds us that integrity and attention to detail are at the heart of every successful clinical trial.
Kelsey first discovered her passion for quality during her internship, and it didn’t take long for her to know she had found her calling. “I really enjoyed the attention to detail and knowing that what I was doing made a real impact on both the research and the people involved,” she shared. With guidance from mentors at Profound, Kelsey has grown into a key part of Profound’s nationwide quality efforts.
In her role, Kelsey performs QC checks on studies, focusing on early milestones like screening, randomization, and investigational product (IP) administration visits. She meticulously reviews CRIO and study documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and protocol adherence, catching issues early and helping sites stay on track.
For Kelsey, maintaining consistency across Profound’s expanding site network comes down to clear communication and integrity. “I always try to give supportive feedback so sites understand exactly what needs to be fixed and why,” she explained. “That kind of open communication helps us stay aligned and uphold the same high standards everywhere.”
When asked which of Profound’s core values resonates most, Kelsey didn’t hesitate: integrity. “In QC, it’s all about being honest and thorough, making sure everything’s done right and nothing gets overlooked.”
Recently, she’s played a critical role in one of Profound’s high-volume trials, ensuring that even under pressure, quality never wavers. “It can get overwhelming at times,” she admitted, “but staying organized, breaking things down, and keeping an open line of communication with my team helps me catch important issues early.”
Beyond the data and documentation, Kelsey’s story reflects the heart behind quality work. She grew up in a home her father built, one that still stands as a reminder of care, craftsmanship, and family. Soon, she’ll be welcoming her first child into that same home, bringing her story full circle.
